The Magic Touch of the Women in MISD

By Dr. Monica Aragón

As we wind down Women's History Month, we celebrate history in the making in our own Mora Valley.
On January 4, 2022 four females were sworn in to the Mora Independent School Board of Education by Judge Cindy Garza. While there have been many influential women in the MISD, this is the first time the majority top leadership roles are occupied by women.

The five-member board includes: Dr. Monica Aragon-Board Chair, Doris Velarde-Vice Chair, Audra Vigil- Secretary, Ernest Lovato-Member, Vicky Lovato-Member.

We are excited for this new dynamic in our community. As women there is a natural instinct to nurture, teach, encourage and promote children to reach their fullest potential in order to succeed in life.

All the women on the Board are mothers and have had their families attend MISD. They have witnessed the pros and cons of the school district and are ready to bring a new era to the district and move in a positive direction for the betterment of the schools as a whole.

While the Board as an entity is a makeup of various ages, beliefs, career and educational backgrounds, all five members have made a strong commitment to collaborate for the best interests of the students, making them their number one priority. Like all women of Mora, are not afraid to roll up their sleeves and work hard.
